Tribute & Message From The Family

Loving Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister & Friend

Betty Jean Syens, age 79, of McHenry, passed away peacefully at her home, Wednesday morning, May 26, 2021, surrounded by her loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Betty was born October 5, 1941 in Tomato, Arkansas, the daughter of Reford Grissom and Annie Sue Tillman. On July 7, 1983, Betty married her loving husband, Peter Syens in McHenry.

Betty worked for over 33 years, before retiring as a supervisor from Brake Parts in McHenry. She loved to travel and visit casinos all over the country. Betty was an avid fisherwoman and was able to fish a lot in Wisconsin on a lake near there summer trailer and was also fortunate enough to fish in Canada. She spent quite a few years following her grandkids sports. She enjoyed cooking and watching her cooking shows with a big glass of iced tea. When it came to family, nothing meant more to her, and there was nothing she wouldn't do for them. Betty was greatly loved and will be missed by all that knew her.

Betty is survived by her loving husband, Peter Syens; son Thomas O'Donnell; stepchildren: Robbin (Sam) Swanson, Deb (Phil) Sayer, Scott (Patricia) Syens and Sherri (Darin) Chambers; grandchildren: Megan, Sean, Nicole, Tony and Grace; great-grandchildren: Mya, Lexa, Trayce, Alexander and Savannah; half-brother Roy Dingler and many cousins.

She was preceded by death by her parents, Reford Grissom and Annie Sue Tillman.

Visitation for Betty will be held from 4-8 P.M. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Betty's name to the American Cancer Society, 1801 S. Meyers Road, Ste. 100, Oakbrook Terrace, IL 60181.

Condolence & Memory Journal

I'm sorry I can't attend the service on Tuesday, but my thoughts will be with all her family. She was a fantastic coworker... and now her soul will be with many former coworkers that we have lost through the years. I hope they can laugh and remember the best times from what had been, back then.

Good thoughts and prayers for the family. She will always be in your heart. I remember being told some of the stories--about a corset, the lady with the long boobs and long legs, and many others. She was a fun lady. Will truly miss her. God bless all of you.
