Obituary

Angela Schilling, 94, of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin passed away at hospice in Woodstock, Illinois on January 6, 2019. She was born Luigia Angela Maria Fantini in Villafaletto, Province of Cuneo, Italy on October 24, 1924, the daughter of Giuseppe Primo and Anna Maria (nee Paoletti) Fantini.

Angela met Wayne T. Smith during World War II in Italy. After the war, she came to the United States and had to stay at Ellis Island for four months before joining Wayne in McHenry, Illinois. Angela and Wayne married on December 21, 1947 at the Methodist Church in McHenry, Illinois. They were blessed with five children - David, Sheila, Wayne, Daniel, and Diane.

After Angela and Wayne parted their ways, she met Werner Schilling and they married on November 30, 1968 at the Evangelical Covenant Church, in Johnsburg, Illinois.

Angela was fluent in three languages and decided to become a U.S. citizen. She went through the immigration process, accomplished her goal, and became a United States citizen in 1955. Angela enjoyed cooking large meals and baking for her family. She loved to cook a variety of ethnic foods. She had a vegetable garden and many flower beds that were the envy of her neighborhood. She liked to crochet, knit, needle point, travel, go shelling at the beach, and was an avid bird watcher/animal lover. She loved flowers, playing cards, dice, scrabble, but most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed for her laughter, sense of humor, creativity, caring nature, and adventurous spirit.

Angela is survived by her children; David (Glenda) Smith, Sheila (Tom) Sartin, Wayne (Christa) Smith, Dan (Liz) Smith, Diane (Jeff) Flicek, and Peter (Jacqueline) Schilling.

Her 11 grandchildren; Ryan and Michelle Smith, Chad (Lisa) Branklin, Jeremy and Mandy Sartin, Emily (Richard) Jay, Lily Smith, Daniel Smith, Kristin (Mark) Leiker, Alan (Jordan) Flicek, and Jeffrey Flicek.

Her 23 great-grandchildren; Joshua, Elijah, Zoe, and Liam Smith, Gianna and Emma West, Tess, Nicole, and Mark Branklin, Jakob and Kalena Sartin, Haydn, Karalyn, Addison, Finn, and Deacon Jay, Beckham Smith, Owen, Lola, and Ruth Leiker, and Sullivan, Sawyer, and Naomi Flicek.

She also leaves behind many nephews and nieces in Italy and in the United States.

Angela was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters and brothers-in-laws, Anna (Mario) Cassese, Elvira (Aldo) Ferrero, her brother Primo Fantini, and her husband, Werner Schilling.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2019, from 4pm until 7pm and will continue on Friday, January 11, from 10am until the time of Funeral Service beginning at 11am at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry, IL 60050. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Angela's name may be made to a charity of your choice.
