Anthony Freels Jr., age 75, passed away August 11th, 2017 in Woodstock, IL.
Anthony was born September 15, 1941 in Chicago to Anthony and Frieda (Sturmer) Freels. He moved to McHenry in 1951. He attended McHenry schools until he enlisted in the Navy on December 1, 1958 through August 15, 1962. His tour of duty was on the west coast and upon completion of his service he attended two years at Taft College in Taft California and returned to Illinois in 1964.
He served as a deputy sheriff for Mchenry County until March of 1966 where he went to work for Commonwealth Edison and retired in December 1997 as a Construction Superintendent for The Crystal Lake district and for five years after he worked for Trench-It, which is now Intren.
Anthony was a past member of the McHenry Lions Club for many years and served as president from 1980 to 1981. He was a current member of the Centerville Antique Auto Touring Society or CAATS. His favorite car of choice was the 1960s Pontiacs and knew a lot about taking care of and repairing the antique cars. His hobby was to work on and restore cars, cruising around with other car enthusiasts and talking about those cars with his friends.
On September 24, 1966 he married Sandra Lee Thomas at Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock. On September 24, 2016, Tony and Sandy celebrated 50 years of marriage with friends and family present.
He is survived by his wife Sandra; his children Mark and Annette; his loving grandchildren Kennedy and Amber Freels; Ariel and Joseph Pierce and parent in laws Walter and Dorothy Thomas.
Anthony was preceded in death by his parents; sister Marianne Whitehead; brother William and grandson William Pierce.
He loved his family and spending time with them. He will be missed by all of them.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 15th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with Funeral Services at 12:00 pm at Fellowship of Faith Church; 6120 Mason Hill Road, Bull Valley, IL 60050.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or Fellowship of Faith Church.
