Obituary

Bernadette Ann Parker, nee Syke, passed away unexpectedly on July 8, 2017. She was born in Chicago on January 21, 1939, to a family of Polish and Russian descent, and spent her life in Chicago, Barrington, and Palatine.
Known to her family as "Gigi," she is survived and her memory cherished by her two younger siblings, Marcia Burke and Jim Syke; her two children, Cathy Tompkins and Jim Parker; her son-in-law Scott Tompkins and her grandchildren Elizabeth, Daniel, Cristina and Julia; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, neighbors, her fellow volunteers at the Willow Creek Care Center, and members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McHenry.
A Registered Nurse, she spent years working in home healthcare, visiting, caring for, and cajoling people into wellness. Family was paramount to her. She loved playing Scrabble with her grandchildren, doing word searches, watching movies, and cooking for her family and friends. Her specialties were pierogi, gołąbki, and kolaczki, of which she made thousands for her kids and grandkids.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry, from 4pm to 8pm this Friday, July 10th. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 3500 W Washington St, McHenry, on Saturday, July 15th at 11am.
