Obituary

Colleen M. Poleski, age 68, of McHenry passed away on May 19, 2021 at her house with her family by her side.

Colleen was born in Portland, Oregon on March 24, 1953, the daughter of Bernard and Mary Elaine Grass.

On April 14,1991 at Villa Desiderata in McHenry, Colleen married the love of her life Matthew Poleski. Colleen was known as a self-sacrificing, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She was a servant of Christ. Colleen earned her Master of Social Work degree from Loyola University in Chicago, IL. She was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and worked as a Hospice Social Worker and Chaplain for Family Home Health for 12 years. Colleen was an active member of The Church of Holy Apostles Community Kitchen core team. Colleen attended many Bible studies, and completed Fr. John Hardon's Catechism study through Saint Peter's Church in Volo, IL. She went on multiple mission trips to Haiti where she served with the Missionaries of Charity, caring for babies at the Home for Children. She spent many hours feeding and holding them. She also visited the sick and elderly at the Home for the Dying and Wound Care Clinic. Colleen also frequently served at a soup kitchen in Chicago. She had a generous, selfless heart; willing to serve wherever needed. She was an active Pro-Life advocate, and a "Crusader for Life". Colleen had a great love for and devotion to Padre Pio, Mother Teresa, and Saint Therese of Lisieux.

She is survived by her loving husband: Matthew C. Poleski, McHenry, IL; her children: Lori (Nick) Colucci, Aurora, IL, Suzanne (James) Pappas, Franklin,TN, Justin (Mary) Smith McHenry, IL, Michelle (Jason) O'Leary, Woodstock, IL, Karen (Roger) Trutsch, Libertyville, IL; her grandchildren: Rocco Loffredi, Chase Pappas, Anastacia Smith, Andrew Smith, Elaina Smith, Lucia Smith, Joseph Smith, Teresa Smith, Mariana Smith, Zelie Smith, Kiara Garrett, Sophia Trutsch, Mia Trutsch; her siblings: Judith (Carroll) Mummert, Chadds Ford, PA, Michael (Mary Anne) Grass, Spring, TX, Patricia (Randy) Stone, Wittmann, AZ, Thomas (Beverly) Grass, Blanco, TX, William Grass, Driftwood TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Connie and Bernie Grass, her brother Richard Grass, and her mother-in-law Lorraine Hojnacki.

Private family Funeral Mass and Burial will be held at Saint Peter's Church and Cemetery in Volo, IL.
