Obituary

Edwin Altergott of Huntley, IL passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of April 13, 2017. He was 90 years old. He was born August 7, 1926 in Chicago, to David and Sophie (Griesmann) Altergott. He worked as a cement mason in the family business, David Altergott and Sons. He proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the US Navy Seabees. Edwin married the love of his life, Delores, on November 25, 1950 at Nebo Lutheran Church in Chicago. While long-time residents of Park Ridge, they raised two children, Linda and Kirk. Upon retirement, they relocated to Rapid River, MI. He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and a caring friend to many. Eddie was also an avid fisherman, a great storyteller, loved making homemade German sausage with and for his family, and enjoyed playing the horses. He is preceded in death by his wife, Delores (Brightstone) Altergott. Also preceded by his parents, his sisters Sue (Cliff) Geier and Molly Baublits, and brother David (Fran) Altergott, Jr. Survived by his loving children, Linda (Max) Childers of Wonder Lake, IL and Kirk (Becca) Altergott of Port Orchard, WA; nephews Brian Geier, John Baublits, and Keith Altergott; niece Linnette (Howard) Benson (Altergott); grandchildren Kerry (Kevin) Cresham, Krista Childers, and Kelly Childers. A celebration of his life will be held from noon to 3pm on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at his home, 11735 Wembley Dr. in Huntley.
