Obituary

Eleanor "Nora", age 88, of McHenry and former long-time resident of Buffalo Grove, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, while in the presence of her husband and family.

Nora was born January 29, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio to Emma (Bernschein) and Stanley Weston. In August of 1955, she married (then Lieutenant) James "Jim" Norton of the United States Navy, also of Cleveland. Nora and Jim met at Ohio State University, in German class where they fell in love and were married shortly thereafter. Before marriage, Nora worked as a medical secretary and after marriage she faithfully raised 7 children. While raising her younger children, Nora wrote poetry and earned an Associates degree in journalism from Harper College. For a time, Nora wrote the police blotter and published some articles in the Daily Herald. Through the years, Nora devotedly served the Lord by practicing hospitality toward others as well as inviting traveling missionaries into their home. Nora served in her church Sunday school, Bible Study Fellowship, and other areas as needed. Nora also reached out in her community and taught English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.

Nora was a long-time member of Village Baptist Church of Buffalo Grove and of Meadows Baptist Church in Rolling Meadows and attended the Evangelical Free Church in McHenry.

Nora is survived by her adoring husband of 62 years, Jim, who together with their children, faithfully loved and cared for Nora during her decline and brief illness. Her surviving children are: Jeanette (Paul) Doetsch, Nancy Hoth, Wendy (Mark) Correll, Lorene (David) Palm, Diana (Jeff) Mekeel, Jim (Rita Perko) Norton and Virginia Norton (Danny Bobrow) as well as 27 loving grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Nora was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy Duffy, her brother-in-law John "Jack" Norton, sisters-in-law Kathleen (Murray) and Dorothy (Sosinski) as well as her son-in-law Randall Hoth; may they all be at peace together with their Lord.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until noon Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive
