Loving Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma & Friend

Obituary

Esther E. Basler, age 91, of McHenry passed away on May 17, 2021 at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington with her family by her side.

Esther was born in Bismarck North Dakota on January 26, 1930, the daughter of Jacob and Carolina Geist.

Esther was employed for over 20 years at First Midwest Bank in McHenry and maintained close friendships with many co-workers until her death. She was a vital member of the First United Methodist Church, attending faithfully with her husband Frank. She volunteered as a church bookkeeper for over 20 years, and worked tirelessly to help provide luncheons for countless funerals. She was an avid Cubs fan who could recite statistics for every team member and stood ready to identify those who, in her estimation, needed to gain a little weight. Renowned as an amazing cook and baker, Esther was a very special lady who touched countless lives in her time on earth. Devoted to her children, and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she faithfully attended hundreds of sporting events, dance recitals, school and family functions. Her capacity to love was virtually limitless and was especially felt by the spouses of her children and grandchildren. She left no doubt as to their place in her heart. She leaves behind untold numbers of friends, relatives, and even casual acquaintances whose lives were richer for having known her. If the value of one's life may be measured by the number of hearts broken by your loss, hers had no equal.

She is survived by her loving son: Kevin (Carol) Middleton, Toledo OH; her grandchildren: Emily Parsons, Davenport FL, Christopher (Vanessa) Shafer, McHenry, IL, and Erin (Joseph) Sanders, Woodstock, IL ; her great grandchildren: Jackson Shafer, Aidan Shafer, Nathan Lannie, Dylan Lannie, Grace Ann Lannie, Isaiah Lannie, Mary Elizabeth Parsons, Marshall Parsons, Olivia Sanders, Ainsley Sanders and Joey Sanders

She was preceded in death by her husband Frank Basler, daughter Sharon Shafer, grandson Matthew Shafer and great grandson Ethan Lannie, her parents and five siblings.

Visitation will be Friday, May 21, 2021, from 9:00am to 10:00 am at First United Methodist Church, 3717 Main Street, McHenry, IL. The funeral service will begin 10:00 am at the church with interment to follow at 11:00 am at Woodland Cemetery, McHenry.
