Gladys Beverly Legner passed away peacefully at home in Algonquin, Illinois on Thursday, December 20, 2017 at the age of 83 years old.
Gladys in predeceased by her parents Edward and Emma Kiewert, her sister Violet Blyth, and her loving husband Donald R. Legner.
Gladys is lovingly remembered by her son Glenn Allen McCann of North Augusta, South Carolina, her daughters Cindy (Loren) Pitzen of Johnsburg, Illinois and Sherri (Rod) Nestmann of Algonquin, Illinois, her step-children David (Janice) Legner, Beth (Bob) Radzun, Jamie (Gary) Mueller, her grandchildren Daniel (Moria) Nestmann, Ryan (Jackie) Nestmann, Glenn Allen McCann, Jr., Lauren (Tim) Pawlak, Christopher Legner, Carly Legner, and her great grandchild Ruby who loved her "GiGi". She is held close with love and adoration by her dear sister, Emma Gustafson of Libertyville, Illinois.
Gladys was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 13, 1934. Gladys worked at Illinois Bell for over 30 years first as a telephone operator and later as an office supervisor and trainer of sales and customer service representatives.
Gladys and Donald were married on February 14, 1973 and enjoyed 21 years of time together. Their relationship was characterized by the lyrics from a favorite song of theirs, "I love you more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow." After retiring, Gladys and Don relocated to their favorite place, Las Vegas, Nevada. They loved Las Vegas for its excitement and especially the warm weather, sunshine, blue skies and mountains. One of Gladys's favorite places to visit was Red Rock Canyon where she loved the beautiful mountain vistas.
The other great love of Gladys's life were her beloved pet dogs, especially her friend and companion of 14 years Sparky.
Gladys loved spending time with family and dear friends. She enjoyed traveling to England and vacationing with her grandsons Daniel and Ryan. Gladys was an avid reader. She especially loved to read about English history and always enjoyed a good mystery novel. She was a devoted Cubs fan, and was elated when they won the World Series.
She will be dearly missed by all whose life she's touched. The funeral services will be held at the Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Dr., McHenry, IL. Visitation to occur 12/27/17, 4 pm to 8 pm, and the funeral service will be held on 12/28/17, at 10 am with burial to follow at the Ridgewood Memorial Park, 9900 North Milwaukee Avenue, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Best Friends Animal Society online at bestfriends.org.
