Obituary

Judyth Kay Maxwell, age 79, of McHenry passed away on January 8, 2022 in Elgin Illinois.

She was born on December 26, 1942 in Forth Wayne, Indiana, to Estell (Cap) and Gladys (nee Muncy) Weddle.

Judyth spent her early years in Indiana, moving often with her family before settling in Downers Grove, Illinois, during her high school years.

She met her beloved husband, James J. Maxwell, at work. She was his secretary at the railroad. He pretended to like coffee for weeks so that she would bring it to him each morning and he would have a chance for a quick chat. They married on August 13, 1970 in Downers Grove, Illinois. They raised their two children in their Downers Grove home.

She was a frequent volunteer at her children's schools and attended every event. As her children grew, she became more involved in various Masonic organizations, building lifelong friendships and taking leadership roles in each, including Eastern Stars, Daughters of the Nile, and White Shrine. As much as she enjoyed the social part of participating in these groups, she really loved the charitable work they engaged in. The fundraising was constant and varied, but the major event each year was for the Shriners Hospitals.

She channeled her entrepreneurial drive into a greatly successful Avon business in the 70's and built a house cleaning business, Domestique, from scratch with a partner in the later 70's/80's. After selling that business to what would become Merry Maids, she became a real estate agent. She loved a challenge and to learn or build something new. She also felt strongly about caring for our elders. When it was time to make a change, she dedicated the rest of her career to caring for seniors, working at the senior center to coordinate home delivered meals and other programs.

She lived the values of perseverance, ownership of one's work, and contributing to one's local community.

Judyth is survived by her husband: James; her children: Amanda (Brian) Smith and Jonathan (Jenelle) Maxwell; and her grandchildren: Joseph and Sarah Maxwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Cap and Gladys Weddle.

No services are scheduled at this time. A celebration of Judyth's Life will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Shriners Hospital for Children www.lovetotherescue.org or consider volunteering your time to your local home delivered meal program for senior citizens.
