Obituary for Marlene Franzen

May 16, 1939 - December 5, 2017
McHenry, Illinois | Age 78

Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Sister

Marlene Franzen, age 78, of McHenry, passed away Tuesday, December 5th, 2017 at JourneyCare surrounded by her loving family.
Marlene was born May 16, 1939 in Chicago to Minnie and Edwin Kuhn. After meeting the love of her life Andrew Franzen, the two were wed July 19, 1958.
When Marlene was baptized by her dear friend in Cold Creek, Colorado many years ago, it was her first and greatest bonding into a union with Christ. In all the years that have passed since then, Christ was with her as she grew. The spirit of the Lord was her constant companion and guide.
During her lifetime, Marlene showed many fruits of the spirit – love, joy, patience, and faithfulness: the harvest of a life well lived. She showed a love for God, family, and her country. Marlene was blessed with the gift of evangelism; and example of this was the time she lead a nurse to Christ while she was in a rehab center. She was always interested in people's salvation. So many around her also benefitted from her gift of mercy. She always had a smile and a kind word for whoever she was with.
There is no doubt that her life demonstrated a likeness in Christ which is now her merited crown of glory in heaven. She was blessed with the talent of decorating, gardening, art, reading, and always admiring Mother Nature. Marlene was also blessed with a quiver of arrows (three children and seven grandchildren) of family who loved her. Marlene's life verse would be Galatians 5:6 "the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."
Marlene's family will miss their dear wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, but today we celebrate the life of Marlene, knowing there is also another celebration in heaven because a saint has come home.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, Andy; three children Sheryl (Larry) Johnson of Palatine, Scott Franzen of McHenry, and Chris (Karla) Franzen of Mundelein; and seven grandchildren Christine, Hannah, Haden, Audrey, Jessica, Jacob, and Ethan; sister Linda, and her brother-in-law Roger Nielsen.
Visitation will be held from 10am until 1pm on Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Colonial Funeral Home, 591 Ridgeview Drive, McHenry. Funeral Service will begin at 1pm followed by interment at McHenry Memorial Park in Woodstock, IL.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be directed to JourneyCare, 405 Lake Zurich Rd., Barrington, IL, 60010.
