Obituary

Rhonda Lee Crary of Woodstock, IL passed away on September 14th, 2021 at the age of 61. From the embrace of her loving boyfriend and youngest daughter, she was received into the arms of our Dear Lord. Rhonda was born on July 25th, 1960 and grew up in Zion, IL.

She is survived by her adoring boyfriend of 10 years, Joseph Lindstrom; youngest daughter, Monique Hopper; Mother, Evangeline Crary; sister, Becki Parrett; sister, Teresa DeMarco; brother, Dale Crary; sister, Joellyn Welch; along with many other loving family members. Rhonda was preceded in death by her father, Leon Crary and her precious daughter, Michelle Zavatsky Nicolay. She was an adoring Grandma to Lilly, Nathan, AJ, Evan and Greyson.

Rhonda was courageous, kind, raw, unique, sad, outspoken, wild, selfless, unfiltered, hysterical, stubborn, and reckless; a woman with a presence you'd likely not forget. Rhonda enjoyed the little things in life, like being wrapped up in the warmth of her loved ones' arms, watching game shows & reality tv, feeding the birds, walking along the beach, eating comfort foods and singing along to the music that lifted her spirits. Rhonda had an unconventional life, invariably battling depression, addiction and mental illness. She came from a family of 7, each member of her family acting as a pillar of support for her at times when she could not bear the weight of her troubles on her own. She was truly blessed to be woven into a family that would come alongside of her as she fought to get well.
Rhonda became a CNA shortly after high school (Zion Benton) and then later worked with elderly people in their homes as a caregiver, uplifted from her own sorrows by serving others. Rhonda enjoyed resale at many points in her life and would search for "treasures" to turnaround and make a profit. She was the Queen of rummage sales and may have even worn a crown while she worked her deals. Rhonda's two children, Michelle and Monique, were her focus as she went through her days. Even during crippling depression, she gave all that she could as a mom and always found the strength to give love and praise to her daughters. There were ebbs and flows in Rhonda's life. During times when she was at her best, there were periods of great joy for Rhonda and her girls. In those times when she felt well, they danced and sang and enjoyed every bit of happiness that they had together. Rhonda could be the silliest person around and made life into a party whenever she got the chance. These special times were a gift to be cherished. Rhonda's life was difficult as she remained shackled to mental illness and always slipped back into sadness. Despite it all, she carried on and was an incredibly strong and brave individual for doing so.
Joe entered her life and was a true Godsend as Love was something that Rhonda never thought she would experience. Joe and Rhonda chose to go through life together as one. Joe fully accepted her as she was and nurtured her through some of the most difficult times in her life. Rhonda was loved deeply when depression told her that she was unlovable. She was nurtured and protected by Joe when tragedy and illness struck her over and over again. While the memory of Rhonda's life brings on heartache thinking back to the hardships that she endured, the true love that she experienced, the kind of love that is eternal, it makes the story of her life one of absolute triumph. She was an incredibly strong and brave individual and she became even stronger and even braver because she had Love. Rhonda died covered in kisses and affection, loved on this earth immaculately as she entered into Heaven.

A private memorial will be held by her family at a later time. In memory of Rhonda, donations can be made to the following organization. May there be help and Hope for families suffering from mental illness. https://www.nami.org/home
