Gengler, Robert Howard, 83, passed away after yet another courageous battle with heart disease and cancer on July 5th, 2020. He was born on August 5, 1936 in Aurora to Theodore and Theresa (Avram) Gengler. On June 20, 1959 he married the love of his life, Margaret M. Linster at St. Joseph's Church in Aurora. They were happily married for over 52 years until Margaret's death in 2012. He was a graduate of Marmion Military Academy in 1955 and earned a Bachelor of Science from St. Joseph's College and a Master's in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Illinois. Robert (Bob) had a distinguished career as a Senior Staff Technical Engineer at both Western Electric (AT&T) and Motorola and was proud to be a United States Patent Holder. A beloved husband, devoted dad and Grandpa - 'Papa' extraordinaire, loving brother and loyal friend, he taught us all how to fight with incredible resolve and positivity, through every conceivable health crisis, for the chance to live the life and dreams we choose. A man of great intelligence, integrity, tenacity, and common sense, he shared his strength, sense of humor, faith, and generosity with all who were lucky enough to know him. He taught his family, through his unwavering example, to always put family first.

He leaves behind his daughter Laura (Michael) Colantoni of North Andover, MA, son Tim (Yvonne) Gengler of Mesa AZ, daughter Lisa Stevens of Woodstock IL and daughter Linda (Kevin) Kott of Cincinnati OH; grandchildren Cheryl (Jeff), Karen (Phillip), Alisha, Brandon (Nancy), Lauren (Eric), Michael, Samantha, Jasmine, Andrew (Anna), Ben and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren, Madison, Brendan, Morgan, Mia, Adrianna, Zachary, Elliana and Evan; brothers Jim (Ginny) and Al (Liz); brother-in-law David (Connie) and nephews Eric (Jeremy) and Jason (Kristy). As well as great nieces and nephews, Ella, Noah, Micah and Anna.

Due to the current health situation, the family will have a private visitation at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry and Funeral Mass at Resurrection Catholic Church in Woodstock at 10am CST on Friday July 17th.
